Are Kushner family real estate assets a conflict for Jared?

The real estate development firm partly managed by the sister of White House senior adviser Jared Kushner has issued an apology over a weekend event in Beijing in which Kushner's name was used to attract wealthy Chinese to a cash-for-visa scheme commonly used by investment-hungry US real estate developers.

Feinstein said the EB-5 program presents "a stark conflict of interest" for President Trump and Kushner, both of whom have used EB-5 funding for construction projects.

Kushner Companies later apologized for the name drop, and said it was not meant to be an "attempt to lure investors" to one of its projects in New Jersey. Kushner Companies apologizes if that mention of her brother was in any way interpreted as an attempt to lure investors. "That was not Ms Meyer's intention".

The Kushner family are in China raising funds for their Kushner 1 (One Journal Square) project in New Jersey with the help of Qiaowai, a Chinese company which connects USA developers with Chinese investors. At a Sunday presentation in Shanghai, security guards barred all media.

"You would think if they are going to take part in a marketing event for one of their properties, that they would want to see the PowerPoint", he said. "The potential investors were advised to invest sooner rather than later in case visa rules change under the Trump administration", they add.

"Asked why Trump signed a bill allowing the continuation of the investor visa program, a White House spokesman said that Trump had little leeway to adjust a spending bill that was largely assembled by the Obama administration, although Trump did seek to shape the measure in other ways, such as money for the border wall", the Post reported.

That's according to reporters from The Washington Post and The New York Times, who were attending the publicly advertised event at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Beijing on Saturday before press was removed from the room.

According to the website of Beijing-based immigration services company QWOS, Kushner Companies was seeking $150 million from 300 EB-5 investors.

Kushner, who is married to First Daughter Ivanka Trump, has also "divested his interests in the One Journal Square project by selling them to a family trust that he, his wife, and his children are not beneficiaries of, a mechanism suggested by the Office of Government Ethics", Roberts said.

The company also featured a photo of President Trump on a slide at the event that said "key decision makers" on the EB-5 programme, CNN reported.

"The fact that she is the sister to the top adviser to the president makes it even worse", Lofgren said.

Is Kushner the most powerful 36-year-old in the world?

Plenty can go wrong when foreign money mixes with immigration green cards, real estate deals and political connections. Kushner has said he'll recuse himself from dealing with the EB-5 plan. They accused her of using Jared Kushner's name to raise funds for the Kushner's family project. The New Jersey building makes use of an EB-5 visa program to draw in global investors, including the Chinese. On a big screen, Jared Kushner's previous role in the company and his current role in the Trump administration were highlighted.

Something like 90 percent of those putting up half a million dollars for a set of green cards through the EB-5 program are from China.
