Arsenal beat Chelsea to win record 13th FA Cup

Arsene Wenger is widely reported to have signed a new contract to stay with Arsenal this summer, with an announcement pencilled in for tomorrow.

The 67-year-old Frenchman's brow has been constantly furrowed this season with intense speculation about his future overshadowing a campaign that saw the Gunners fail to finish in the top four for the first time since he took charge in 1996.

Nine wins from their final 10 matches saw the Gunners turn what looked like a disappointing season into a somewhat positive one with Saturday's FA Cup success moving Arsenal ahead of Manchester United as the most successful team in the competition's history.

Gary Cahill believes the offside rule is "crazy" after Alexis Sanchez's opening goal in Arsenal's 2-1 FA Cup final win over Chelsea on Saturday was controversially allowed to stand.

This has definitely helped restore Arsenal's season but coming fifth in the league and being humiliated 10-2 on aggregate against Bayern Munich in the last 16 of the Champions League has really put the Arsenal boss under huge pressure. We are at the end of the season and a lot of players are exhausted and then there is a lot of pressure.

"Of course I want him to stay at club". I don't think they're going to be anywhere near the title.

But all season he started just 15 games and was much more utilized as a late substitution to add flare and know-how into proceedings.

"If the club want to sell me, there's one club I'd move to", he was quoted as saying, agreeing that it was Atletico, who he left three years ago to join Chelsea.

After that loss, Wenger said he had made a decision on his future which he would announce "very soon".

While that remains unclear, Wenger said the win against Chelsea was the ideal example of what Arsenal were capable of under his guidance. "Now it's important to understand this and find the right solution because don't forget we weren't the champions and now we start next season as the champions".

It was expected the 32-year-old would endure a hard afternoon against the likes of Diego Costa and Eden Hazard, but instead Mertesacker was at the top of the game, leading Wenger to single him out for individual praise.

"I think we have shown great support in him (Wenger) as well and for his trust in us".

"I know I am in a public job".
