Chicago FBI chief among candidates for interim director

The White House position is that the controversy over Comey's firing is puzzling since Democrats had called for Comey's dismissal months ago. Christopher Murphy of CT admitted that "it's absolutely true that Democrats have been very critical of James Comey, and many of us did call for his resignation".

Comey was delivering a speech here in Los Angeles just down the road from my office when he learned, apparently at the same time as all the rest of us, that he had been fired by Trump at the urging of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

U.S. President Donald Trump's breaking point in his decision to fire FBI Director James Comey came when Comey refused to preview his planned Senate testimony for top Trump aides.

Sanders said the President made his final decision Tuesday, after talks with Rosenstein and Sessions on Monday and receiving written recommendations from the two on Tuesday. "Today we will no doubt hear calls for a new investigation which could only serve to impede the current work being done", McConnell told the chamber. The Senate must put politics aside to make sure Comey's replacement is no puppet of the president.

We can't rely on the Justice Department for that, given that its leadership is complicit in Comey's firing.

The revelation has fuelled concerns that Mr Trump was trying to undermine a probe that could threaten his presidency.

Senator Elizabeth Warren said a special prosecutor needed to be appointed whom "Trump can not fire".

They privately described a day afterward spent processing the news, swapping praise about their former boss, and grappling with angst that Comey wasn't given a chance to notify employees.

The FBI has said that when his wife first considered running for the seat, McCabe consulted with FBI ethics officers for guidance to prevent against actual or potential conflict of interest. "And most importantly, he lost the confidence of the President".

Mr. Trump's decision to fire Mr. Comey is "a bad political call" rather than a constitutional crisis, Prof. Scarborough said that he was surprised Sanders twisted his words, an action he expected from "liberal Democrats".

"Frankly, I'm offended at the president's comments", Warner told reporters.

Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores denied that Mr Comey had asked for more resources.

Trump bemoans the fact everyone keeps focussing on the alleged Russia-Trump kerfuffle (it happened, after all, prior to the election and things that far back aren't worth focussing on unless you're talking about how 'uge the electoral college win was).

The White House appeared caught off guard by the intense response to Comey's firing, given that the FBI director had become a pariah among Democrats for his role in the Clinton investigation.

U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, told reporters it was her "understanding" Comey had been seeking more resources for his investigation into the tangled Russian Federation controversy.

Absent interference, the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe into possible collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign will continue.

"The Justice Department retains regulations that set out, very specifically, the circumstances in which an independent counsel is appropriate".

In an interview with Yahoo News and Finance Anchor Bianna Golodryga, Rounds said that between the questionable timing of Comey's firing and Trump's freaky reference to the Russian Federation investigation in his termination letter, "this clearly has done nothing but draw attention to it".
