We were sort of toying with the idea, in a way, of what we ended up doing with Logan-it was going to be a movie about these two brothers.

Jackman said recently that when he first got the role, he researched wolves instead.

Anyone who has seen a couple of the X-Men and Wolverine's standalone movies would know the feeling. So the suit was one thing but we just couldn't work out how to do it, so if anyone can work that out you go for it.

Via Page Six, Jackson recalled that he spent a few weeks researching wolves after he was cast in the very first X-Men movie. I was rehearsing for three weeks and I was shooting, so I was kind of on my own.

It's been reported for years that Russell was director Bryan Singer's original choice, and now the actor has finally revealed why he turned down the famous part and it has everything to do with his role in Gladiator. (The irony of an Australian actor not believing in one of the Northern Hemisphere's crazier animals apparently being lost on all involved.) "I said, 'Well, there's no such thing as a wolverine, '" Jackman said. "I remember going past an IMAX in Toronto, and there was an IMAX documentary about wolves, and so I thought, 'I'll go and see that, '" Jackman said Wednesday. "[Singer] said, 'Are you sort of walking amusing, what's going on?,'" recalled Jackman. Wolverines are also loners that resemble small bears, even though they are more closely related to the Mustelidae family.
