Record-equalling Noren claims stunning Wentworth win

Alex Noren of Sweden got a sizeable assist from the weather gods at Wentworth and snatched the BMW PGA Championship to win his fifth European Tour title in less than a year. Sunday at Wentworth, Noren became his country's first victor of the European Tour's flagship event.

Ian Poulter had a final-round 70 to finish in a tie for 41st, but at least he saw his beloved football team Arsenal capture one of the sport's major trophies when they defeated Chelsea 2-1 in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday evening.

Indeed, a day when the stars and future stars of European golf were expected to take charge instead witnessed an unheralded man from Down Under assume leadership of the tournament.

Hideto Tanihara, his playing partner, also picked up four on the front nine but after playing through the rain his putt lipped out at the last and cost him a share of second as Francesco Molinari sailed past him soon after with a birdie-birdie finish for a 68 and nine under.

He birdied four of the first nine, and although Colsaerts had eagles on both the 12th and 18th holes, the Belgian bogeyed the 12th and double-bogeyed the 15th - and admitted he left a few shots out there.

South African Branden Grace, who caused controversy earlier this week over a free drop he took from a bunker, climbed to within a stroke of the lead after the third round.

Lee Westwood carded a third round of 72 to lie three shots behind Dodt, but it was a round that Seve Ballesteros would have proud of.

He opened with a pair of birdies to begin his charge through the field. Only after the birdie on 12 did I think it was going very well.

Yeah, I'm just happy that that's over.

"At the start I wasn't thinking much of the deficit", he said. If he is to improve on that this week he will have to overcome the most high-profile test of his career. "It finally went my way". "There will be a lot of nerves there".

"You try and draw the positives and move on to the next week but obviously I'd have liked to have played a bit better, especially yesterday".

If Dodt is keen to correct his fourth round record, Westwood is desperate to do so.

"It's a tough, tough course in these conditions".

"I need to go out (on Sunday) and play well and just go and put a good score on the board". "I ended up with 23 putts and 95 percent scrambling. That's where you get the buzz".

"Myself and Billy [Foster, his caddie] were just laughing at each other because it was so ridiculous".

"The flag was in a great position", he said afterwards. You know, the only thing I've tried to do is to - what I wanted to do is play better against a better field and better courses, tougher courses. I was looking at 17 and 18 as the chances for birdies, but the putt at 16 was big.
