Union Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave passes away PM Narendra Modi 'shocked'

He has been a member of the Rajya Sabha since 2009.

One major contribution by him to the environment was India's move to make the country asbestos-free a year ago on 15 August 2016.

Anil Madhav Dave (1956 -2017), a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician, was born on July 6, 1956 in the city of Badnagar, in Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh. "My condolences", tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"Dave was a very good cycle friend, and his death is a person loss to me", Meghwal said lauding the departed minister for his work on environment, and passion for environment issues. Anil Madhav ji's contribution to Indian politics and environment conservation was incredible. "He was tremendously passionate towards conserving the environment", the PM added.

Meanwhile, the Union Cabinet met today at 3.30 p.m. and observed a two-minute silence in memory of late Anil Madhav Dave and passed a condolence resolution. Dubbing Dave's death as a personal loss to him, Chouhan recounted his recent stay in MP on May 8 and 9, when he had participated in discussions to chalk out an action plan to save river Narmada as part of the Narmada Seva Yatra.

As part of his last wishes, Anil Dave asked those close to him not to build memorials or statues for him or organise programs in his memory.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his shock at the minister's demise. The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chauhan has announced a two-day mourning in the state.

"Anil Madhav Dave ji was the ideal definition of a gentleman & good human being. My condolences", Modi tweeted. Dave has asked for people not to invoke his name for any environment-friendly initiatives that are undertaken in his memory. "He will above all be remembered for his crucial role in making the Kigali Agreement, so critical to fight risky climate change".

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said: "It is shocking and unbelievable that one of our most smiling, charming and youngest at heart colleague, Anil Madhav Daveji is no more with us".
