AMD Shows Off Threadripper and Ryzen Mobile, and Dates EPYC and Vega

The new Radeon Vega Frontier Edition will be the first graphics card in the family to launch, and will be geared toward supporting machine learning and advanced visualization. AMD brought out that very same demo for Threadripper. We also got our first look at Threadripper, a physically large processor with 16 cores and 32 threads with support for quad-channel DDR4 memory and a whopping 64 PCI Express lanes.

AMD's CEO Lisa Su, however, tried to paint a sunny picture at the press conference.

AMD's 16-core Ryzen Threadripper (left) dwarfs the 4-core Ryzen mobile chip (right).

Finally, not to be outdone, AMD's 32 core & 128 PCIe lane Epyc CPU for servers has also received some news of its own. This years AMD's stock price have been climbing rapidly after successfully releasing its ryzen cpu but AMD's stock prices have tumbled after announcing poor earnings and after misleading people on contract with intel. AMD is now in the process of slowly releasing information about the chip to build up interest ahead of its launch - which, before you ask, hasn't been set yet and is still "this summer".

Since then, AMD has offered no graphics cards in the enthusiast market and NVIDIA has gained a lot of market in this segment with multiple enthusiast cards above the $299 United States price range. AMD claims that Ryzen mobile will offer 50% better CPU performance and 40% better GPU performance than the 7th Generation AMD APU. Officials said it would feature four cores alongside Radeon graphics in a single chip. X399 motherboards from Asus, Gigabyte, MSI and ASRock are already in development and will be ready for the launch.

"The reception and response from both consumers and enthusiasts for Ryzen has been remarkable, and we're just getting started as we roll out a full line-up of Ryzen processors that deliver exceptional performance for premium and high-performance desktops and notebooks", said Jim Anderson, senior vice president and general manager, AMD Compute and Graphics business group.

Virtual reality demands the latest technologies for realistic VR experiences and AMD announced that all Ryzen™ desktop processors are Oculus approved.

Mobile Ryzen was capped off with ASUS' new Strix GL702ZC 8 core ROG gaming laptop.
