Android Pay is now live in Canada

The digital wallet works with Canadian Visa and MasterCard credit and debit cards, as well as Interac debit cards from approved organizations.

Android Pay lets users make quick-and-easy in-store purchases without needing to enter credit card details.

Following in the footsteps of Samsung Pay, Google is also launching its mobile payment service, Android Pay, in Canada which is one of the most advanced countries as far as viability for electronic transactions is concerned.

Android Pay is starting its rollout in Canada today, May 31st. Paysafe will offer its Canadian merchants the ability to process in-app payments using Android Pay by providing them with required Application Programming interfaces (API) and a Software Development Kit (SDK) to support this function. It can also be used for in-app payments in certain apps.

"We'll be rolling out support for top banks over the next several days, and this is just the beginning", Pali Bhat, Google's vice president of product management for payments, wrote in a blog post. But still two major institutions have been overlooked which are TD Canada Trust, and the Royal Bank of Canada.

Rumor was that Android Pay would be arriving in Canada before the end of May, and sure enough that turned out to be the case.

Mobile payments, which have been discussed for years, have been slow to take off. Simply tap the Android smartphone on any contactless terminal and the payment is sent for authorization. And if your Android phone is ever lost or stolen, you can simply use Google's Find My Device feature to instantly lock your device from anywhere, secure it with a new password, or even wipe it clean of your personal information.
