Firefighters battling massive blaze in London high-rise

LONDON-The London Ambulance service says 30 people have been taken to five hospitals after a massive fire at a high-rise apartment building in west London. "I can not confirm the number at this time", Dany Cotton said as early reports indicated no fewer than six were killed.

The fire nearly entirely engulfed Grenfell Tower in the North Kensington area from the second story up to the 24th, with flames lashing up the sides of the charred building and smoke billowing over the city.

Along with her message, the picture post shared details of how those wishing to help can assist those affected by the fire. "I think he might have just had some broken bones and bruises".

Actor and writer Tim Downie, who lives around 600 meters away from the scene in Latimer Road, and said that he feared the block could collapse.

KFRS has an agreement to support neighbouring fire services, and the London fire service has said that they are using a drone from Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

Cladding had been added to the outside of the building, blamed by some residents for helping the fire to spread so quickly. At least 200 firefighters went to tackle the fire that broke out around 1 a.m. local time and continued to burn for several hours. "In my 29 years of being a firefighter, I have never seen anything of this scale", she said.

One woman lost two of her six children as she tried to escape from the block, one witness said.

The Kensington and Chelsea Council, which oversees the area where the fire occurred and is Grenfell's landlord, said in a statement its immediate focus was helping victims and their families.

A residents association for the west London tower that was caught up in a fatal blaze Tuesday night warned of a risk of a catastrophic fire as far back as 2013, according to numerous media reports.

Khan, the mayor, said that safety concerns and questions raised by the tenants will "need to be answered". This means that (unless there is a fire in your flat or in the hallway outside your flat) you should stay inside your flat.

The group claimed access to the building was "severely restricted" for emergency services and other vehicles and that residents were advised to stay in their flats in case of fire.
