At least three people were injured when Indian troops resorted to unprovoked firing across the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir on Thursday morning, ARY News reported. "He is out of danger", a Defence spokesperson said.

The news of Thursday's attack also came just hours after Arun Jaitley, who now holds the Defence portfolio, told reporters: "I don't want to get in to the strategic details, but in past few weeks our armed forces are dominating the LoC".

One person was killed and four others injured in Battal sector, while one person was killed and another injured in Kotli sector.

The firing and shelling by the Pakistan Army in May this year has affected over 12,000 people.

The Indian Army launched retaliatory fire and killed five Pakistani soldiers and injured six others.

More than 30 militants have been killed by Indian soldiers since then, prompting more frequent clashes between rebels and government forces. "They are using small arms, automatics and mortars".

This is the third instance of ceasefire violation by Pakistan in last one week.

A General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF) personnel was killed and two others have been injured in the ceasefire violation encounter.

Local officials said several houses were also damaged due to the mortar fire.

Member Kashmir Council and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Younas Mir also condemned the attack on the civilian areas and implored global human rights organisations to take notice of continuous ceasefire violation on the LoC and the martyrdom of the innocent people of AJK.

The fighting has left tens of thousands, mostly civilians, dead.

Pakistan breached the truce along the Line of Control 449 times in 2016 as compared to 405 violations in 2015. "Friendly relations between the two countries are imperative for peace, security and economic development of the region".
