Ranieri has penned a deal that will run until the end of the 2018-19 campaign with Les Canaris - who had accused the French Football Federation of holding up the appointment on Tuesday - and he will hope to replicate the success he had with Leicester and lead the club into the European places.

Ranieri, 65, won the 2015/2016 Premier League title with Leicester City before getting sacked in the middle of the following season due to poor results.

The French soccer league has given permission to Nantes to hire former Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri.

Ranieri, for all intents and purposes, looked Ligue 1-bound (and could still be) but could now find himself at the centre of a tug of war after the Eagles apparently came in with a management offer of their own.

"I'm sure we're going to have a great season", he said in an interview on the Nantes website.

According to Nantes, the club received special dispensation from French league officials to hire Ranieri as he had reached managers' age limit of 65 past year.

Nantes allowed former Portuguese coach Sergio Conceicao to return to his homeland and take over the reins at Porto two weeks ago and moved swiftly to find a replacement.

"I do my work with passion, professionalism and focus, so what others say doesn't interest me. There is a very strong youth academy with players emerging from here like Marcel Desailly or Didier Deschamps, many of a great quality coming through right now, and the President is very enthusiastic", Ranieri added.
