French Open 2017: Murray Defeats Nishikori to Enter Semi Finals

Serving at 1-1, deuce in the second set Murray was bizarrely given a time violation warning by umpire Carlos Ramos after he had let an errant ball toss land - prompting an exchange of views between the pair. "I have never seen that".

"I will fight, fight and fight as hard as I can and hopefully make it a tough battle", said Murray. I think I'm playing well. "I don't know because we don't have the clock on the court, so it's impossible for us to tell".

"It was a similar situation coming in previous year", Murray said. I think he's probably a bit less confident, a bit more hesitant. It was just today it was odd how it came about.

The 30-year-old Briton goes on to face 2015 champion Stan Wawrinka who dispatched Marin Cilic 6-3 6-3 6-1 earlier in the day.

Murray dropped the opening game of the fourth set on his serve and then swept Nishikori aside, beating the Japanese player for the ninth time in 11 career meetings.

The Austrian finished on his second match point. "We don't know what's going to happen on Friday, don't know how either of us are going to play, but with the right attitude, right game plan, right tactics, you can still win matches".

By reaching the semifinals of the French Open, Murray has already defied the expectations of many who felt his lack of form, up-and-down health and a recent elbow injury might leave him undercooked in Paris.

The story of the day was the unusual demise of Djokovic, who appeared to give up in the third set of his 7-6 (7/5) 6-3 6-0 defeat by Thiem. She bounced back and then saved a match point in the tiebreaker.

"It hasn't always been easy for me here, but these last few years have been great". Halep looked to be heading out, trailing 5-1 in the second set, but recovered and eventually saved match point. While he has three Grand Slam titles to his name, he is yet to win at Roland Garros. Anyone can win matches when they are playing well. Stan this tournament has played great. Third-seeded Simona Halep is playing No. 5 Elina Svitolina on Court Suzanne Lenglen.

But with the Swiss star not having lost a set so far, the task will be a challenge.

Novak Djokovic is out of the French Open. Thiem took over after that, winning the third set in only 20 minutes.

"But that was a critical period of the match because he started way better than me". Grand Slams excite him.

Spain's Rafael Nadal maintained his quest for a 10th French Open crown after fellow countryman Pablo Carreno Busta was forced to retire after receiving treatment for what appeared to be an abdominal problem.

Shortly before play is supposed to start, the temperature is 57 degrees F (14 degrees Celsius).

"On Friday is Nadal".

Andy Murray defeats Kei Nishikori to advance at Roland Garros. The first set was tough, lasting an hour and a quarter.
