Kubica: Renault test shows what I have lost

Kubica to test F1 car in Valencia

The Polish star was preparing for his second campaign with the then-Lotus (now Renault) team in 2011 when he severely injured his right arm in a crash whilst participating in an Italian rally during the F1 off-season.

"I am proud with what I achieved, but also it shows what I have lost".

But Kubica has admitted that the test proved he has lost something, but it has played an important part in his recovery.

"It is a tricky thing to jump into an F1 auto after six years and it was a great performance from him".

The 2008 Canadian Grand Prix race victor returned to the cockpit of an F1 auto on Tuesday in what was described by Renault as a "one-off test".

Permane insisted, however, that the outing was just a one-off for Kubica.

Kubica completed 115 laps at Spain's Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo on Tuesday in a 2012 spec Renault-powered E20 auto. "It was a private test, for Robert", the team said, adding that the Pole had completed 115 laps with "the biggest smile" afterwards. "Renault was the first manufacturer to test me in 2005 and I appreciated this new opportunity".

Alan Permane, the sporting director of the Renault F1 team, said, "Robert has changed a little, he is more mellow and he wasn't as pushy when asking for every detail about the set-up of the auto!"

Robert Kubica, the first Polishman to compete in Formula 1, not to mention the first Pole to win a Grand Prix, has endured some intense peaks and troughs in his racing career.

"It is a tricky thing to jump into an F1 vehicle after six years and it was a great performance from him", Permane said in a statement.

The latter has yet to score a point in six races this season with increasing media speculation about his future ahead of this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix.

"Robert has changed a little", Permane continued, "he is more mellow and he wasn't as pushy when asking for every detail about the set-up of the vehicle!" It was a one-off event for Robert.

Renault reserve driver Sergey Sirotkin is also scheduled to drive the vehicle in Valencia, perhaps to set a benchmark time.
