Theresa May could LOSE General Election - shock new poll

FTSE 100 rises as pound slips on fresh election poll

In contrast to signs from a string of opinion polls that have suggested May's Conservatives will increase their majority, the new constituency-by-constituency modelling by YouGov showed it might lose 20 of the 330 seats it holds and the opposition Labour Party could gain almost 30 seats, The Times said.

If the YouGov model turns out to be accurate, May would be well short of the 326 seats needed to form a government in June, when formal Brexit negotiations are due to begin.

But a separate survey by Kantar-TNS yesterday put the Tories on 43 points - a ten point lead over Labour.

British Prime Minister Theresa May's lead over the opposition Labour party has nearly halved to eight points in the space of a week, an opinion poll from Panelbase showed on Thursday.

But a shock new projection in The Times newspaper forecast that the Conservatives could lose their majority in the 650-seat House of Commons.

Since British Prime Minister Theresa May called her snap election last month, the conventional wisdom was that she would significantly increase her parliamentary majority.

Sterling has recovered after being hit by a projection suggesting the Conservatives could fail to win a majority in the general election. Brexit compelled Cameron to leave as he wanted to stay in EU.

That would have uncertain consquences for Britain's $2.5 trillion economy, and future government policy on everything from government spending and corporate taxation to bond issuance. Against a backdrop of narrowing polls - increasing concerns in the market that she may not get as large a majority as previously expected - the British premier left the confrontation largely unscathed.

"If there is a hung parliament you've got to be quite anxious for the pound and the United Kingdom 10-year yield on gilts", Moore warned.

A Guardian/ICM poll released on Wednesday, but completed after the television questioning, showed May's party leading by 12 percentage points.

Shakespeare said the figures could change dramatically before June 8. The betting markets are still anticipating Labour's polling numbers coming down a little from the high 30s and the central projection of Ladbrokes prices would imply...

YouGov's model draws on the data collected from around 50,000 panellists quizzed on their voting intention over the course of a week and uses a recently-developed technique called multilevel regression and post-stratification (MRP).

Betting markets give a more than 80-percent probability of May winning an overall majority, though they were wrong ahead of the unexpected Brexit result in the June 23 referendum previous year.

The conservatives are the right wing political party led by Theresa May.

A bad night could see the Conservatives plummet to 274 seats.
