Trump supporters turn on special counsel Mueller

The top Democrat on the House Intelligence committee says Congress would not sit still if President Donald Trump chose to fire the special counsel leading the investigation into Russian interference in the US election and possible collusion with Trump's campaign. In an interview on CNN's "New Day", Ruddy said, "I think it is a consideration the President has had because Mueller is illegitimate as special counsel".

"It doesn't matter who the order comes from, good cause would be based on the reasons for the proposed removal", he said.

Mueller was appointed by US Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to probe into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US polls. That was the upshot of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein's testimony before a Senate Appropriations subcommittee on Tuesday.

In his interview, Ruddy said Trump had interviewed Mueller for the position of Federal Bureau of Investigation director several days before Rosenstein appointed him special counsel.

Last night, a longtime friend of President Trump, Christopher Ruddy, said the president is considering firing Mueller.

"I'm not going to follow any orders unless they are a lawful order", Rosenstein responded.

Ryan noted if Trump made a decision to fire Mueller, it would be a "big problem for him politically".

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D., N.H.) asked Rosenstein about these reports before reading several regulations for when a special prosecutor can be removed from their position.

President Trump has railed against the Russian Federation investigation, describing it as a "witch hunt".

Rosenstein was likely referring to the possibility that Mueller would investigate whether Sessions violated his recusal or whether Comey's firing was an effort to obstruct justice.

Rosenstein continued to defend the investigation and the Department of Justice's oversight, saying "I can assure you we're going to do the right thing and defend the integrity of the investigation".

"Director Mueller is going to have the full degree of independence that he needs to conduct that investigation appropriately", Rosenstein said.

Gingrich had originally praised the choice of Mueller, but explained to Stephanopoulos that he changed his mind after hearing former FBI Director James Comey testify that he deliberately leaked documents to the New York Times in order to usher in a special counsel's appointment.

"Let Robert Mueller do his job", Ryan said.

Ruddy lashed out at Spicer and the White House communications team in a Tuesday interview on MSNBC, calling their behavior "amateur hour" and accusing them of failing the president.

The appearances, however, are likely to be overshadowed by Attorney General Jeff Sessions' public appearance at a Senate intelligence committee hearing. The resounding answer was no, and the implication is that if Trump ultimately decides to fire Mueller, then Rosenstein will have to go first.

The new talk about dismissing Mr Mueller appeared to be coming from Trump allies - including some close to White House strategist Steve Bannon - who are increasingly frustrated with the prospect of a long and winding probe.
