United Kingdom ministers push for Johnson to take over from Theresa May

BORIS JOHNSON today urged Tory MPs to unite behind Theresa May and mocked Jeremy Corbyn - pointing out that the Labour leader nearly did worse than even Gordon Brown. "Let's get on with the job", Johnson posted on his Twitter account.

After the disappointing showing for the Conservative Party in the United Kingdom exit poll, bookies are already raising the chances that the flamboyant foreign secretary will emerge as the next British leader after the general election.

"Mail on Sunday tripe - I am backing Theresa may".

"4 we must get on and deliver for the people of this country - including a great Brexit deal..."

As well as encouraging his fellow Tory MPs to support the PM, he also urges them to stop the narrative that Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn won the Election - adding that the result was hardly better than in 2010 when Gordon Brown was their leader.

As her two top aides were told to quit for her to remain in power, there are rumours that Mrs May may not have the keys to number 10 for much longer.

News has reported screengrabs of an eight-point essay from Johnson to a group entitled "Conservative MPs" in which Johnson apparently tells members of the group to "calm down" after the election.

He also said the public "do not want another election" and labelled Mrs May a "woman of extraordinary qualities".

Speculation is mounting that Boris Johnson could emerge as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom should Theresa May step down in the wake of a humiliating election result.

On Friday, May announced her plans to form the coalition between Tories and the DUP.

Former ministers Nicky Morgan and Anna Soubry, as well as ex-Chancellor George Osborne were among those who warned Mrs May her premiership is not sustainable.
