Kornheiser backs off bicycling comments
Tony Kornheiser of ESPN has been doing a lot of backpedaling lately. He apologized for his comments about the on-air attire of colleague Hannah Storm. And now, he backed off statements he made on his radio show recently saying that people should run bicyclists off the road.
“And they all, my God, with their water bottles in the back, and their stupid hats, and their shiny shorts, they’re the same kind of disgusting posers that in a snowstorm come out with cross-country skis on your block,” Kornheiser said. “Run them down.”
So, Lance Armstrong fired back on Twitter. “Listening to Tony Kornheiser’s comments/rant on ESPN radio re: cyclists. Disgusting, ignorant, foolish. What a complete f-ing idiot.”
Armstrong then went on his radio show to stick up for bicyclists and Kornheiser backed right down. Isn’t he supposed to be an irreverent voice on the radio? Why back down? You said what you said, now back it up.
Korneheiser said he had a private conversation with Lance and that “I certainly apologized.” Kornheiser also said that he “got way over the top” and that “the bicycle people were properly offended.”
On the air, Kornheiser said “these rants are over.”
I don’t get it. You are paid to have edgy opinions. That is why you have a radio show. Yet, any time you say something controversial, you just back off and apologize. And what does an apology even mean? Maybe Kornheiser is on thin ice at ESPN and he knows it.

What is controversial about running people of the road. It is against the law, Kornheiser is Imus three years ago. Not funny, not interesting, not worth listening to. I am sure fox will pick him up soon.

He advocates hate towards a group that poses no harm to him and killing them with a car. Saying “run them down” means hitting a cyclist with a car, usually killing the cyclist. Here is a person with a national radio show espousing hate crimes, of course he needs to back down from those statements.
